Head of School Sam Chestnut on WAKR Radio

Our Head of School, Sam Chestnut, was interviewed live on the Ray Horner Morning Show, on WAKR Radio (1590AM). Click

He talked about the school's cross-cultural exchange program with the
Northern Cheyenne Nation in Montana, and how that gives students a new
and valuable perspective on events in American History, such as the
Battle of Little Bighorn (Custer's Last Stand). Sam noted that most
history books focus on the Federal Army's experience of overwhelming
defeat at the hands of native American tribes including the Cheyenne.
But, when Lippman students talk to descendants of the Native Americans
who actually fought in that battle; they get a different and deeper
understanding of battle, which occurred on June 25–26, 1876, near the Little Bighorn River in eastern Montana Territory.
In addition, when students and teachers from the Northern Cheyenne Nation visit The Lippman School, they have the opportunity to learn about Jewish culture and traditions, and to experience what life is like in a part of the country that is very different from their own, in Eastern Montana.
That exchange will continue this Spring, Sam says, when Lippman 7th and 8th graders once again visit the Northern Cheyenne reservation.
