Akron Community Welcomes Northern Cheyenne
5/22/2015
Our Northern Cheyenne drum circle and dancing event at
Firestone Metro Park drew more than 100 Akron community members last night.
The evening included a tribute to our Head of School, Sam Chestnut, who was honored with a ceremonial blanket and special dance.
The weather was perfect, and the the audience responded enthusiastically to the music and the colorful dance. They also heard from tribal elder and Northern Cheyenne language instructor, Burt Medicine Bull, who explained the history and meaning of the traditional songs, dances, and costumes.
Medicine Bull also talked about his tribe's connection with our school during an interview with a reporter from the Akron area's NPR Radio affiliate, WKSU. To listen,
