Lippman and Northern Cheyenne Students Share Food & Traditions
5/18/2015

The Lippman School welcomed students, teachers, and elders from the Northern Cheyenne Nation today, for for a week of shared learning and activities. Students spent the day exploring cultural differences and similarities by learning to make two different kinds of bread; Jewish Challah, and Northern Cheyenne fry bread.

For example, they found that making Challah is an ancient Jewish tradition going back thousands of years, but fry bread is a fairly recent addition to Northern Cheyenne cuisine.

More shared activities are scheduled for this week, including a bonfire at Firestone Metro Park this Thursday evening, May 21, which will feature traditional Northern Cheyenne drumming, dancing, and singing. It's free, and open to the public. For more details, click here.

This is the third year Northern Cheyenne students have visited Akron. Lippman students have visited the Northern Cheyenne reservation in Montana twice, most recently, last May. More pictures and story click here.
